A press conference, chaired by Y.B. Danny Law Heng Kiang, was held on Thursday, 13th December 2012 at 10.00 a.m. in the Meeting Room of Hokkien Kongsi in Snake Temple, Penang.

As Year 2013 is the Year of the Snake, Penang State Tourism together with Hokkien Kongsi, Penang and the Snake Temple Resident Area Committee have decided to hold the first Ban Ka Lan Snake Temple Festival on the birthday of “Cheng Chooi Chor Soo Kong” which falls on the 6th day of the 1st lunar moon in the Chinese calendar, corresponding to 15th February 2013.

Tickets have been sold for the Charity Food Fair and the proceeds will be in aid of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital.  There will be hawker stalls to showcase our wide array of hawkers food for visitors to our Snake Festival

In addition, we will put on shows and cultural performances for the entertainment of all visitors.  We will also invite experts from all races to demonstrate their skills on how to make traditional food.

Chinese all over the world celebrate Chinese New Year from the 1st to 15th day of the 1st lunar month of the Chinese calendar and in the Year 2013, it will be from 10th to 24th February inclusive.  So we are asking all Malaysians and foreign visitors to Penang to come and celebrate Chinese New Year with us at the Ban Ka Lan Snake Temple Festival on Cheng Chooi Chor Soo Kong’s birthday on 15th February 2013.  It is going to be a Double Celebration.  Do come to our street party as it is going to be a fun-filled evening with lots of food and activities for your families.
