Ban Ka Lan Snake Temple Annual Flame Watching Festival 2015 (“Chneah Hoay” Ceremony)

At 11.30 p.m. on the 5th day of the 1st lunar month, there is the usual “Chneah Hoay” ceremony by Cheng Hoe Seah to forecast the economy of Penang.  Usually the Main Hall of Snake Temple is so full of devotees that it is difficult for our photographers to take photos.  I received photos from Max Teoh Yeam Chuan (Alpha Moments Photography) and I was so impressed by the sequential photos he took of the “Chneah Hoay” Ceremony that I would like to share them with you.  The other photos were taken by Michael Chuan.  I think these are priceless photos and I am documenting them for posterity.  I have also added a sublime fish-eye shot taken by our Webmaster Peter Ho of the Main Hall of Snake Temple.

Chinese New Year Cultural & Heritage Celebration on 16th February 2013

The All Clans Chinese New Year Celebration was held in the heritage enclave of Georgetown.  An arch was built in conjunction with this celebration and lanterns were put up giving it a very festive air.  As it is the Year of the Snake, Hokkien Kongsi, Penang set up their own stage to join in the celebration and asked the Snake Farm (based at the Snake Temple in Penang) to bring snakes and put on a snake show for tourists and visitors.

When I left, I could see that Goldie, the albino python was drawing a crowd to the stage.  Goldie is such a sweet and easy-going creature that I personally find her very adorable.  This is such a turnaround for me, as I used to have an aversion for snakes!

Hi come and join us. We are going to the Chinese New Year Cultural & Heritage Celebration
